The Year 8 team were determined to continue their unbeaten start to the season as they made the short journey to tackle local rival Longridge High. A scrappy start saw Longridge take an early lead with a well taken goal giving Harry no chance in goal. St Cecilia’s did not let their heads drop and upped their work rate which saw them start to win the seconds balls on a bouncy pitch and start to dominate key areas of the pitch. We equalised when a clever reverse through ball saw Theo one on one and he calmly lobbed the ball over the stranded keeper. We were soon on the attack again and some intricate play saw Best able to slide a smart finish past the oncoming keeper a take a 2-1 lead into half time. The message for the 2nd half was the same, and that work rate and competing for 1st and 2nd balls would then give us the right to play. The 3rd goal came seconds after kicking off with Man of the match Freddie rolling a pass into Theo who layed it off to a midfielder who found Freddie who had carried on his run, slotting the ball into the far corner. Brilliant goal. It was one way traffic for the most part for the rest of the half with Theo adding another and Freddie giving his first goal a run for its money with a Paul Scholes like Volley flying in from another pinpoint Jake corner. A great win but more importantly a pleasure to watch a group of players with fantastic attitudes throughout.
