We are aware that some modifications and adaptations to our career programme are necessary in accordance with the individual need of our students.  These adaptations never diminish the quality and ambition of what we offer but sometimes provides different ways of maintaining high aspiration.

For example some pupils;

  • will partake in additional career guidance discussions alongside a supporting adult
  • will be supported through a transitional programme that includes additional visits to their post 16 providers
  • will learn that pupils with additional needs should be highley aspirant and seek encouragement and inspiration from the successes of others.

Action Plans

We produce individual career action plans for all pupils following their one-to-one careers talks.  In addition, for pupils with SEND, this information is ‘chunked’ even further as a clear pathway that can then be utilised in progress reviews and SEND reviews.

Additional One to One Sessions

Pupils with an EHCP, SEND pupils and disadvantaged pupils will have an additional interview in Y10. This extends further to pupils with a known attendance issue.

Aspiration Groupwork Sessions

In all KS3 year groups students take part in small, targeted careers related groupwork sessions as part of the guidance offered by Kelley – the school’s Level 7 qualified Careers Adviser.

Aim: Help students identify what they find engaging and rewarding. Support them to develop self-awareness and career management skills. Helps students to define their aspirations and improve their life opportunities.

In Year 7, students discuss topics such as:

  • Developing skills and aspirations: Teamwork, raising self-awareness and aspirations.
  • My Career journey: life choices, interests, and motivation.
  • Setting goals: Introducing strengths, career options and goal setting.

In Year 8, students discuss topics including:

  • An overview of aspirations, skills, and self-awareness.
  • My Career journey: Where do I see myself in 10 years?
  • Setting goals:  Identifying strengths, career options and goal setting as part of the GCSE options process.

In year 9, students further develop their understanding of what a career is and consider the choices they need to make. Topics include:

  • What are the choices/options available to me at the end of KS3?
  • My Career journey: What are my current aspirations and career ideas?
  • How can I manage the decision-making process and who will help me. Where do I go to for information and guidance?
