We are delighted to announce that our school has been selected as one of the 29 judging schools for the Lancashire Book of the Year 2025 award.
Lancashire Book of the Year (LBOY) is the longest running young people's regional book award in the country. The award remains one of the few book awards in which young people themselves are solely responsible for choosing both the shortlist and the overall winning book. The first winner, when the LBOY was launched in 1987, was Philip Pullman, who went on to have great success with the 'His Dark Materials' trilogy. Other winning authors include Malorie Blackman and Anthony Horowitz.
The award is voted for by pupils in year 9 from secondary schools around the county. Schools are given a collection of books chosen by publishers as the best books they have produced for the 12 to14 age group. Year 9 students then read and shortlist the books before choosing the overall winner.
We are really excited to be taking part in this prestigious process and will keep you posted as the judging commences.
