Dave Cottrell from Change Talks delivered a series of impactful online-safety assemblies to Year Groups 7–10 on Friday 28th November. During these sessions, he focused on a number of crucial themes designed to help pupils navigate the digital world safely and responsibly.

Key areas of emphasis included:

  • Looking after your identity – understanding how to protect personal information and recognise the importance of privacy online.

  • Keeping social media secure – learning practical strategies for safeguarding accounts and using platform settings effectively.

  • Scams, catfishing, bullying and grooming – raising awareness of common online risks, how to spot them, and what to do if something doesn’t feel right.

  • Understanding your digital footprint – exploring how online actions create lasting impressions and why it’s important to think before posting.

All pupils, along with several teachers, gained valuable insights and new knowledge on this high-profile and increasingly relevant topic. Dave, a lived-experience educator, shared authentic, real-world examples that helped bring the message to life and encouraged everyone to reflect on their own online habits. His input left the school community better informed and more confident about staying safe in the digital space.
