Over the past two weeks, all year groups have had an assembly, co-delivered by Mr Hewitt and Heads of Years, on 'attendance matters'.

Getting up and turning up is a life skill and a vital attribute that all employers look for.

Sometimes, it is hard to measure the impact of missing a day or a week; where most people would celebrate 90% on a test, a pupil with 90% attendance would be classed as 'persistently absent' and they would have missed approximately:

-19 days which is;

-4 weeks which is;

-100 lessons of learning

Research shows that pupils with good attendance are more likely to achieve better examination results in comparison to similar pupils with poor attendance. Whilst this might sound self-explanatory, the aim of our assembly was to empower pupils to take ownership of their own attendance and where possible, be in school, on time, every day.

Heads of Year acknowledged that there are legitimate reasons for absence and reminded pupils of the pastoral network of support at St Cecilia's. If a child or family is concerned about their attendance, please contact school and ask for support.

We simply want all of our pupils to discover and develop their unique talents and abilities. Good attendance gives our school the best chance to fulfil our aim and ensure each individual can reach their full potential.
