Staff: Mrs Y Pickles and Mr J Walker
Mrs Pickles is Lead Teacher for Food Technology. Mrs Pickles has taught at schools in Lancashire throughout her teaching career and has been at St Cecilia’s since 2009. She has also worked in the hospitality industry.
With the recent changes to the Design & Technology National Curriculum and the manner in which the GCSE Design & Technology is being delivered (2017), St Cecilia’s RC High School have adopted a new outlook to accommodate these adjustments.
Students will be exposed to a plethora of skills and subject based technical knowledge, which will help them excel in and after school. Students will be required to work both independently and collaboratively in an iterative approach, to help develop their problem-solving skills and understanding of materials and concepts. Students across all year groups will have the opportunity to develop hand skills and experience industrial technologies such as Computer Aided Design (CAD) and Computer Aided Manufacturing (CAM).
Recently appointed teacher, Mr Walker has helped invest in new equipment and technology to expand the opportunities offered by St Cecilia’s Design & Technology department. He won Create Education’s competition to win a 3D printer by submitting a teaching resource focused on societal benefit. Please find the link below:
With a new teacher, new changes and new equipment in the department, it is going to be an exciting place for students of all ages and abilities. We are looking forward to the next 12 months to see how creative and forward thinking the students can be!
